MainStreaming, the award-winning and innovative Edge Video Delivery Network, today announced it has joined the OpenMOQ Software Consortium, an industry initiative developing open-source software to implement the IETF's Media over QUIC (MOQ) and QUIC standards. OpenMOQ brings together leading technology companies around a shared, open-source foundation for the next generation of media transport.
The move marks another step in MainStreaming's commitment to helping shape the future of real-time media transport while reinforcing its role as an active contributor to the streaming technology ecosystem. By joining the consortium, MainStreaming is committing engineering resources to the development of open-source MOQ software, working alongside fellow OpenMOQ members on ingest, relay and playback implementations that will support the protocol's adoption.
MainStreaming brings the practical perspective of a company delivering live and on-demand video at scale every day for broadcasters, OTT platforms and ISPs. Within OpenMOQ, this operational experience helps inform technical decisions, keeping development focused on real-world requirements such as reducing latency, improving scalability and delivering the best possible viewing experience, from high-profile live events to everyday on-demand streaming.
Media over QUIC (MoQ) is designed to support ultra-low-latency streaming while enabling efficient distribution to broadcast-scale audiences, a capability MainStreaming believes will be fundamental to the next generation of live streaming. By contributing to the consortium's working groups and supporting the evolution of the protocol, MainStreaming aims to help accelerate the industry's transition toward scalable, low-latency media delivery for content providers and viewers alike.
Sergio Carulli, Chief Product Officer at MainStreaming, said: "Live streaming continues to push the boundaries of both latency and scale, and the industry needs a shared, well-engineered foundation to meet those demands. That's why we believe in open standards. Working alongside other companies in OpenMOQ allows us to accelerate innovation, contribute our operational expertise, and help establish MOQ as a common foundation for the future of streaming."
Will Law, Chairman, OpenMOQ Software Consortium, commented: "We're glad to welcome MainStreaming's industry experience into OpenMOQ. Their day-to-day work delivering live video at scale is exactly the real-world perspective that will keep MOQ development grounded in what broadcasters and platforms actually need. We look forward to building software for the next generation of media transport together."
Joining OpenMOQ also reflects MainStreaming's long-term commitment to collaborating across the industry to create shared value. By contributing to a common open-source foundation alongside other consortium members, the company is helping accelerate innovation and support the continued evolution of media delivery technologies.
