Video streaming is not easy!

It is not easy even in Countries where the quality of internet networks is supposed to be very high.

And when it comes to live events, things get tricky.

When problems with streaming delivery arise, it is not simply a matter of the size of the provider. Or of the ISP’s capacity. Nor a matter of the technology itself.

Internet networks were not designed to support a bandwidth-hungry streaming flow, and they were not designed to deliver content to millions of concurrent users. But even though networks have expanded, fiber is now everywhere, gigabits are even in houses; they still need to be optimized to cover as much traffic as possible. Especially when it comes to the delivery of live events.

Live streaming is time sensitive. It’s not like sending an email attachment. Static content delivery isn’t as time critical as a Formula 1 start or a penalty kick.

During the early 2000s, when dial-up networks were being moved to ADSL in the industry, there were talks about the risks of delivering live events: “streaming is screaming.”

Twenty years later, streaming is still screaming, even in the digital Netherlands or the techy US.

This is why MainStreaming was born: to deliver broadcast-grade live streaming events at scale. And more than 3,7 million sports fans served in Europe are proof of the value of our company.

Building an Intertwined Ecosystem: Our CRO Explains MainStreaming’s Approach to Capacity TV

At Capacity Europe 2025, Ian Franklyn, Chief Revenue Officer at MainStreaming, joined Capacity TV to discuss how the company is helping ISPs and content providers tackle one of the biggest challenges in digital infrastructure today — the surge in video streaming traffic.

As streaming continues to dominate global internet usage and viewers consume more on-demand and live content than ever, ISPs are carrying the load. This exponential growth puts pressure on network capacity, leading to bottlenecks, rising costs, and fluctuating Quality of Experience (QoE). Therefore, this challenge demands closer collaboration between ISPs and content providers.
